We All Knew the Glaciers

We all knew the glaciers

of this last Ice Age

were finite.

At the same time,

we also all thought

they’d be always calving,

dropping icebergs like

whales into icy lakes

and bays and swales.

Who knew we lived

on the brink of Ages?

Children of this Epochal warming

will never know the thunder

of primal ice unforming.

The last drop of time

falls to the fleeting embrace

of the final glacial lake,

already steadily drying.
